Arcanadh Review
May 18th, 2004
Don't let the lush, soft-focus art work put you off - or the title, which whispers of music more suited to aromatherapy sessions than your home stereo. Arcanadh are a young six-piece drowning in vocal talents and spoilt for instrumental choice. Borrowing two songs from the sublime Kate Rusby, they tentatively tinker around the edges without ever quite taking possession of the material themselves. Their cover of the classic, Lord Franklin, is equally genteel, but in need of more refreshing embellishments. Their shared vocals on Anachie Gordon reveal an imaginative vein that would benefit from flowing more vociferously through the collection. Pristine production, faultless musicianship: with a tad more gallantry, Arcanadh may well forge fresh terrain.
